How To Get Things Done Now

1. Stop fighting the situation, stop living in the past and stop wishing things were different. Accept that this is your life now.

I’m used to spending a lot of time alone indoors, so adjusting to extended self-isolation has probably been easier for me than a large number of people. Still, it’s frustrating not to be able to go to the places I love or see my friends. Acceptance is still a work in progress.

2. Ask yourself what your priorities in life are regardless of what’s going on. File away things you can’t do anything about immediately.

I want to start a farm and publish a book I’ve been sitting on for a couple of years. I can’t achieve the first goal right away (because I’m isolated in a city apartment that doesn’t have a patch of grass), so I’m focusing on the second one.

3. List all the things getting in the way of achieving your priority life goals, from distractions (like social media, Netflix and that rabbit hole called YouTube) to tired and old excuses (“I’m too busy”).

I’m never too busy to make time for random videos I find on the internet that lead to other random videos that lead to… Oh, look, that’s time I could have spent on my actual life goals.🤦🏾‍♂️

4. Remove the distractions or make rules to keep them under control and stop making excuses for being dormant.

I’ve been watching films instead of shows and it’s been so much easier to control how much time I spend staring at the screen.

5. Start on your goals, beginning with the easiest one. Small wins will give you the emotional fuel to go after bigger ones.

Flexibility is my newfound superpower for chasing goals: whatever I can do, however I can, whenever I can.

All the best with everything and remember to be kind to yourself.
